Renfrew
|
...
invites you to cross the mighty River Clyde, Scotland.
|
Renfrew,
a town with some twenty thousand inhabitants, lends it's name to the
surrounding area of Renfrewshire, which includes towns from Gourock
in the West to Eaglesham
in the East.
Renfrew
Ferry has run for centuries, transporting passengers across the
River Clyde to Yoker. As recently as 1984 a chain operated
service was still in use. This service, which began over 200 years prior
in 1782, was then replaced by a modern passenger ferry. This is one
of the few remaining ferry points for passengers wishing to cross the
Clyde.
Renfrew
is the home of the Royal Stewarts, a clan who is said to have
dominated Scotland for more than three centuries. Bonnie Prince Charlie
claimed to be the Baron de Renfrew for many years after his defeat
at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. Today, the Baron de Renfrew
is one of the titles of the Prince of Wales.
