Dumbarton Castle
A modern and efficient motorway parallels the river on its southern shore and speeds traffic via Langbank to Greenock. To the north of the Clyde, the river Leven winds its way down from Loch Lomond to enter the Clyde at the ancient stronghold of Dumbarton Castle whose extinct volcanic plug still dominates the northern shoreline.
