lived here ever since we would be pleased to hear
from any-one who knew us, old school pals or
neighbours, etc. I was home 1990, the year the
"grey toon" was european culture city,
and I thought I lost Govan until I found
"the black Man"then I was right,jean
and I often talk about the roon pies,
jacks'rolls',square sausages, tizer and irn bru,
and of course the cup of bovril at the match on
saturdays, man!! the were heavy cups, they would
have broken your toes if you had let them slip,
every now and again we hear some o' ra patter new
people moving into the city, here, it would be
great to "hiv a hurl oan a caur, eating a
fish supper", on my way home from the
flicks, another thought, whit aboot a wee sail
oan the ferry, frae partick to meadowside, you
could go big and get the hoarse ferry at the
Govan cross!!well youse yins' oot therr, nice tae
voice a bit nostalgic but these things are gone
but the memories linger on, in passing lobbey
dosser , his cuddy elfideldo, rank bajin were
drawn by bud neil, mind the big fat wifie holding
up the notice, "ony youse gaun ra length o'
pertick"well ta, ta the noo and HONEY PERRS

Betty was born in Cardonald in
1939 and attended Cardonald Primary School and
then Bellahouston Academy. Married Ken in 1962.
Ken is from Killearn. Moved from Glasgow to Annan
and then to Australia in 1966. Would love to
contact Merle Allen (nee Thomson) who married
Campbell Allen in 1962. Merle also attended
Bellahouston Academy and she lived in Cardonald.
Last we heard of her she was living in Burnside
and had two young daughters. Can anyone help? We
will be visiting Scotland this year (for the
first time in 32 years) and would love to hear
from anyone who could help us. Also trying to
trace Joy and Ray Roberts who lived in Fort
William - once again any help would be
appreciated. Thank you. |

Myra (Crawford) Cowan

I left Glasgow in 1948 to come
to Sacramento to be married. My late husband came
to the Sacramento a few months before I did. He
had lived in Clydebank during the war and moved
to Dennieston when his home was damaged in the
blitz. I have four children, eight grandchildren
and one great grandson. I have one brother and
his family who still live in Partick. I've lost
track of any cousins who might still be in the
area. There was George Gardiner and Betty Rankin.
Several branches of the Cowan family (my inlaws)
are still in the Glasgow/Clydebank area. One
brother in law lives in Leeds.I have seen lots of
people on this site who came from Knightswood
where I lived until 1948. I lived on Kirkton
Avenue. I attended Bankhead School (which was
bombed during the war) and then went to Victoria
Secondary School. Some of the people I remember
were Margaret Hunter, Ann (who lived with her
Uncle Alex and aunt Annie (?). I think the name
was McTaggart. Then there was Girvan Watson and
his twin brother Bill; Jimmy Angus - lived at
Anniesland Cross; I saw the great website on St. David's Church which I used to attend when I was very
young. I went to Dowanhill College after I left
secondary school and then to work for a company
called A. Johnson & Co. in the Royal Exchange
Building. Does anyone recognize any of these
people? I'd like to hear from folks who have
anything in common. |
