East Kilbride

... welcomes you to The Clyde Valley, Scotland. Leisure, Shopping, and History!

East Kilbride is Scotland's sixth largest town with a population of over seventy thousand and is regarded as Scotland's most successful "new town".

What was a rural village less than fifty years ago now has four shopping centres, and outstanding leisure and entertainment facilities. The leisure facilities include: a number of golf courses, ten pin bowling, sports centres and a nine-screen multi cinema. East Kilbride also hosts South Lanarkshire council's main offices.

Loupin' on Stane

The steps which helped travellers mount their horses in the past are still standing today.
In the Old Village, traces of the days long before East Kilbride became a New Town can be found. The village was used by travellers in the days of horse-pulled coaches, and in front of the 17th Century Montgomerie Arms, there are steps that helped the rested travellers mount their horses.

Calderglen Country Park

Calderglen Park is a country park in the East Kilbride area. The Scottish scenery and the range of facilities and services (including: a Visitor Centre; children's zoo, adventure playground and play areas; Ranger service; nature trails; ornamental garden and river walks) make the park worth a visit.

The park is home to the Calderglen Conservatory, which houses plants and animals from around the world. Calderglen Park also has a cafe serving meals and refreshments.

James Hamilton Heritage Park

On the outskirts of East Kilbride lies James Hamilton Heritage Park leisure facility. The park has a 16 acre loch and a small bird sanctuary. The facilities available at the park include: children's play areas; rowing boats, pedaloes, sailing dinghies, bumper boats, Canadian kayaks and canoes, windsurfing boards and sailboats available for hire.
