Thomson, Robert
Scottish inventor Robert Thomson developed a number
of mechanisms and patents.
Thomson's patents include a type of fountain pen
(which he patented in 1849) and an India rubber pneumatic tyre.
The Scot also developed haulage trucks, known
as Thomson Steamers, which were exported to a number of countries across
the globe.
Robert Thomson is also known for developing a
method of firing explosive charges by using electricity. He developed
this when he was assisting in the demolition of Dunbar Castle.
