I have just returned from my
dream of touring Scotland and it was everything
and more I'd hoped it to be! In my heart I know I
have to move to Glasgow-everything felt so
"right" there. I would love to
correspond with anyone from Glasgow who would
like to share their thoughts with me. |

Linda Calver
Australia |
N/A |
I
aged 50, three two daughters, 4 grandchildren.
Parents divorced in 1959 and I went to Oz with my
mother. I
met my father again in
Scotland in 1990 and he introduced me to his new
family. He has two daughters from that Union. I
was so over the moon to hear from them all, my
sister and her family even came to stay for a
while in Australia. However, when they returned
to Scotland, I have lost all contact with them.
To be frank I think they may not want to keep in
touch. I would dearly love to be able to write,
perhaps sending photos of my wonderful
grandchildren. My heart will tell you that you
can take the heart out of Scotland but you can't
take Scotland out of the heart! When I first
returned as an adult, my heart groaned within me,
the tears rolled and I said nothing to others in
the car. For, only a Scot could begin to
understand. Myself, mmmm....very happily married,
still work full time for the Japanese Government,
love my garden, love Australia and would love to
resume contact with my Glasgow family.

I was born in
1962. My family and I lived at the corner of
Renfield and Sauchiehall Street. I attended Milton Street School.
We left for America in 1971. We were back again
in 1976 but haven't been back since. There was
nothing left of the old neighborhood...it had
been demolished. I would be interested in anyone who has good pictures of Glasgow from
60's-70's. I also spent a lot of time in Ayr and
Pollock .

I am a 31 year
old male and am totally proud of where I come
from (Glasgow) I currently live outside Glasgow (helping a family member settle) and would like very
much to return - all I know and love remains in
Glasgow - the patter, my kids, the people the
places, the clyde everything one man needs to
love life. Although sometimes it can be daunting
in Glasgow there are always better days and
always a better class of people (including the
wee jake who mumbles words of jumble)- in other
words - I love Glasgow - I belong there. I am
always looking for ways to better myself, I am an
ex-smoker, I am a class act to myself though I do
not love myself ok! I believe there is a God and
in equality, I have a good sense of humour and oh
well I live for tomorrow!

Eileen Bayliss (nee
Coyle)
England |
N/A |
I was born EILEEN COYLE,
October 1948, lived at 64 Murano
Street, Maryhill, Glasgow - the youngest of
six kids. My parents were JAMES (WILLIAM)
COYLE and MARGARET (STRACHAN OR MULGREW)
COYLE. My brothers and sisters were - JAMES
(JIMMY), MARGARET, MICHAEL, ROSEMARY AND MAUREEN
(born between 1940 and 1947). My dad died
(I believe), around 1954. He was
'journeyman' and had worked on Iona. Sorry
to sound so vague about things - my mum
relocated us to London almost immediately after
Dad died, and it's all just very vague from there
on. She didn't have great memories and
didn't talk a lot about our origins. My mum
recently passed away, and it's awakened the
interest of my two sisters and I (only 4 of us
left), in our parents' families. We're
looking now for any uncles, aunties, cousins that
may be around. My dad's dad was called
William, I believe, and Dad had at least one
brother called Alec and a sister called Peggy (I
think!), and some of his family lived, I believe,
around the Possilpark and/or Sprinburn
areas. I know Coyle is a very popular name
around Glasgow, and that this is probably a shot
in the dark, but it would be great if there was
anyone out there who thinks we might be related,
to get in touch. It would be good to find
some relatives. My mum was an orphan,
adopted by Michael and Mary Mulgrew and lived in
Kilsyth until she married my dad. She was
also known by the name of Strachan (her name
before adoption, I believe). She had an
adopted sister called Jessie. Ring any
bells with anyone? Here's hoping then, that
someone will respond. |
